What is a Florida Licensed Mold Assessor?
A Florida Licensed Mold Assessor is validated by the state to possess the competency to:
- Perform mold assessments for structures, focusing on identifying the origin, identity, location, and extent of mold growth greater than 10 square feet.
- Conduct detailed visual inspections, including hidden areas like attics and crawl spaces, to find visible mold and moisture issues.
- Identify the underlying moisture source(s) causing mold growth.
- Perform physical sampling (air, surface, bulk) when necessary as part of a defined assessment strategy.
- Evaluate data from building history, inspections, and sampling to understand the contamination.
- Develop detailed, project-specific Mold Remediation Protocols (MRPs) outlining required cleanup steps, containment, and safety measures before remediation begins.
- Understand and follow industry standards and Florida legal requirements (Chapter 468, Part XVI, F.S. & FAC Rule 61-31).
- Recognize conditions conducive to mold growth.
- Specify appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for assessment activities and for remediation workers within the MRP.
- Specify containment requirements for remediation projects affecting 10 sq ft or more.
- Define criteria and procedures for Post-Remediation Verification (PRV) within the MRP to confirm successful cleanup.
- Maintain appropriate documentation, including Mold Assessment Reports (MAR) and Mold Remediation Protocols (MRP).
- Adhere to strict conflict-of-interest rules, generally prohibiting assessment and remediation on the same project within 12 months.
- Maintain required $1 million minimum liability and E&O insurance.
